Pam’s Story

Pam is in her late 70s and lives alone, with no family or close friends to support her. Isolated and struggling, she reached out to us after discovering our free trial service.

At the trial visit, we observed Jill was depressed - experiencing deep loneliness and a very low mood. Her home was in poor condition, and she felt ashamed — especially the hoarding which she couldn’t manage alone. She was terrified if her landlord found out the property wasn’t being taken care of, she’d be evicted and forced into a care home. Because of this, Jill was reluctant to accept help from any services.

But over time, with gentle encouragement and consistent visits from The Kitchen Companions, things began to change. We empowered Pam to take small steps - clearing her kitchen worktops, tidying spaces, and taking more pride in her home with the knowledge we were coming. All of which improved and rebuilt her self-esteem and sense of control.

Pam’s mood lifted. She began to look forward to our visits — not just for the routine, but for the companionship, care and connection it gave her. Her self-care also improved and she took more pride in appearance. As her trust in us grew, she felt confident enough to accept our suggestion to connect with P3, taking an important step toward broader support.

Pam’s journey is a powerful reminder that change doesn’t always begin with big gestures — sometimes, it starts with someone simply showing up.
